(SEPTEMBER 6, 2007) -- Right on
the eve of the CIF-Southern Section season, Division III became a whole lot tougher on Wednesday afternoon. And Division IV became just a tad bit easier.
The CIF-SS learned that member school Orange Lutheran apparently had incorrect and outdated student enrollment information on file with the State Department of Education, which in turn then relayed those faulty numbers to the CIF-State office and ultimately the CIF-SS office.
But the inaccuracy was discovered this week and the CIF-SS notified our website on Wednesdsay that the Lancers will be immediately re-classified into Division III rather than the Division IV affiliation it was previously given in the official CIF-SS Season Preview Bulletin.
That's probably a sigh of relief for top Division IV schools, but not good news for Division III members. Orange Lutheran was ranked first in Division IV in both the State and CIF-SS Preseason Rankings released on Tuesday. With the CIF-SS's declaration of the Lancer's new division, those rankings have been revised:
